At our PTA meeting on Monday, we discussed the growing role of technology during the school day and how it impacts our students. Based on that conversation, we are excited to announce the formation of a PTA Technology Committee, and we’re inviting families to help shape this important work.

This committee will focus on understanding and improving how technology is used at Tillicum during school hours — including access to games, use of non-educational software, and how we can best support student learning, focus, and well-being in a digital world.

We will hold the first working group meeting in January, bringing together families, staff, and teachers to listen, learn, identify partnership opportunities, and draft a one-page committee charter.

What the committee could work on (pending our committee's forming of what we want to do!):

  • Research & Discovery: Conduct community listening surveys with students, teachers, staff, and parents to understand challenges and opportunities, building on district insights and best practices.

  • Community Education & Outreach: Create easy-to-understand resources about district technology policies and evidence-based practices, and explore ways to share this information with our community.

  • Program Support: Support initiatives like restarting Tech-Free Tuesdays, including parent-led activities and funding for lunchtime games.

If you’re interested in helping Tillicum students succeed with healthy, balanced technology use, we’d love to have you join us. Please click on the sign-up link and consider being part of this collaborative effort.

Together, we can help set thoughtful, student-centered norms around technology at Tillicum. 🐾
